Building permits for nearly $11.2 million worth of work were taken out in May, according to the latest report from city hall.
That's up from $9.4 million during the same month last year but down from $14.2 million during May 2011.
The number boosted the year-to-date total to nearly $40.4 million, down from $57.8 million by the end of May last year but up from $30.4 million for the same period in 2011.
In all, 48 per permits were taken out in May and nine of them were for new single-family homes around the city, adding up to nearly $3 million, raising the year-to-date total in that category to $7.4 million on 27 permits.
By comparison, 43 permits for $10.7 million worth of single-family homes had been taken out by the same point last year, and the comparable totals for 2011 were 36 permits for $8 million.
Other highlights for the month were:
- A 20-unit condominium complex at 4251 Guest Crescent worth $2.8-million;
- A 15,860-square foot maintenance shop for Lo-Bar Transport at 8377 Hart Highway worth $1.5 million;
- A car wash at the Husky service station at 8087 Hart Highway, worth $750,000;
- Two three-unit multiple-family complexes at 6713 Westmount Drive, both worth $579,000;
- A 7,700-square-foot shop for Edworthy Holdings at 9672 Milwaukee Way, worth $550,000;
- A duplex at 1651-53 Juniper Street, worth $417,840;
- Improvements to the Northern Women's Recovery Centre at 5877 Leslie Road, worth $200,000.
