The annual popsicle bridge building contest is back for another round to find out who can take the pressure of the Crusher Rig.
March is National Engineering and Geoscience Month and to celebrate and encourage a new generation of skilled engineers and geoscientists ,the Central Interior Branch of the APEGBC presents the 18th annual Ultimate Bridge Building Contest and Geo Rocks Event Saturday, March 21 at the Centre Court of Pine Centre Mall.
There are several categories in which to compete, including Primary for children Grades 1 to 3, Intermediate for those in Grades 4 to 7, Secondary for those Grades 8 to 12, and there is a professional category and open category. Registration goes from 11 to 11:45 a.m., or an hour before the start time of each category. Primary starts at noon, intermediate at 1 p.m., secondary at 2 and the professional and open category will follow. The categories for children offer prizes of $150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third. There will be one prize awarded in the professional and adult categories.
Basic rules include the use of a maximum of 100 Popsicle sticks that must remain whole and all-purpose white glue. A matchbox car must be able to travel the bridge on a construction paper deck. The rest of the bridge construction is left to its creator.
Suggested entry fee is a voluntary donation of a non-perishable item to be donated to the local food bank.
