A truck driver broke his ankle because he slipped and fell while walking through a closed-off area at the Vanway transfer and recycling station, according to a response to a civil claim.
Gordon Douglas Price is suing the City of Prince George, the Fraser-Fort George Regional District and Cascades Recovery Inc. for the injury, suffered Feb. 7.
Price alleges the injury was due to a failure to apply salt or gravel and that no visible sign was posted warning visitors of slippery snow and ice.
But in a response, filed July 12, Cascades Recovery said the outside lane at the site's entrance was closed and cones were in place to direct traffic to the inside lane.
Price drove his truck into the inside lane but then got out, walked behind the inside lane's toll booth and into the closed outside lane where he fell, according to Cascades.
Cascades, which provides maintenance services at the site, is opposing Price's request for relief for lost wages and special damages.
The city and the regional district have not yet filed responses to Price's claim, filed in May, and the allegations have not yet been tested in court.
