Don't forget your identification when you head to the polls this Saturday to vote in the civic election.
Before you can cast a ballot, you'll need to show two pieces, the city's chief election officer, Walter Babicz, said Thursday. At least one must have a signature and in combination they must prove both identity and place of residence.
You also need to be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, have lived in B.C. for at least six months and have lived in Prince George for at least 30 days to be eligible.
There are eight locations to choose from to cast a ballot: Blackburn Community Centre, D.P. Todd Secondary School, Edgewood Elementary School, John McInnis Centre, Kelly Road Secondary School, Malaspina Elementary School, Ron Brent Elementary School and Vanway Elementary School.
Although it has hosted two advanced voting opportunities, city hall is not on that list for the general voting day. Doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. at the eight locations.
Voters will be presented with one ballot that will show the candidates for each of the mayoral, council and school board races and a yes and no for the referendum on fluoridated water.
Because the votes will be counted by machine, voters will need to fill in the oval next to the name of the person they want elected.
One section of the ballot can be spoiled without compromising votes on the other parts.
"If a voter chooses to vote for only one race, they're certainly able to do that, or if they spoil one race but want to be counted for all of the others, then they're also able to do that," Babicz said.
Officials hope to announce preliminary results almost as soon as the polls close.
"So between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., we'll start announcing results and we'll continue to announce results until all the polls have reported," Babicz said.
