The recession and resource downturn cut a deep swath through the Cariboo region's economy last year but some economic gains were made, according to a "regional check-up" released Wednesday by the Chartered Accountants of B.C.
"Last year we saw the highest rate of job loss in a decade and the highest unemployment rate
since 2002," said Stan Mitchell a chartered accountant with KPMG in Prince George.
"But surprisingly, there were some bright spots--bankruptcies were at their lowest level in a decade, the number of business establishments was up slightly, and capital investment increased."
