Salmon and beer may not be a traditional pairing, but it's a recipe that a Prince George-based brewery hopes will catch on.
The Pacific Western Brewing Community Foundation has established a $20,000 fund to support grassroots salmon enhancement initiatives in the province.
"When our representatives visit communities on the coast and along the Fraser and Skeena Rivers, they hear a common theme of concern about the pressing need to replenish our precious wild salmon stocks," said PWB owner Kazuko Komatsu. "Hundreds of tireless volunteers are working hard in B.C. communities to rebuild salmon stocks and rehabilitate streams. PWB wants to help."
The funding announcement was made Sunday in Port Alberni during the city's annual salmon derby. In the weeks ahead, PWB will be visiting other communities to engage with local salmon enhancement stakeholders and the community foundation will be collecting and adjudicating requests for support this fall.
