Enbridge says $400 million on goods and services during the construction phase would be spent in the Central B.C. region - from Prince George to Smithers - if the Northern Gateway Pipeline goes ahead.
Here's a look at how that breaks down: Equipment rentals, $102 million; construction camps and catering, $94 million; clearing, logging, salvaging, $61 million; fuel, $42 million; stockpiling pipe, $15 million; equipment parts, $20 million; surveying, $7 million; access roads, $23 million;trucking, $18 million; other Items and services, $ 18 million.
Also, construction employment for the 440-kilometre section passing through this area would add up to 5,160 person years with 3,675 person years for regional residents. Direct construction employment would add up to 1,805 person years with 500 person years for regional residents
Peak pipeline construction will require 1,322 people.
And 15 per cent of those jobs would be for aboriginal people.
Cost of construction for this stretch is estimated at $2.2 billion.
Community hearings by the federal joint panel review of the proposal are schedule to begin Jan. 10, 2012 and last until June 26, 2012 and a decision on whether to let the project go ahead is expected in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Pending approval, detailed engineering would begin at that time while construction would take two-and-a-half to three years, so that it begins operating in 2017.
