A Prince George man has been charged after an unsuccessful attempt to flee from police on the weekend.

After receiving a report of a break and enter in progress at a Forest Avenue home before 11 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP found a man in the front yard of the residence.

"When advised that he was under arrest, the suspect fled on foot," said a statement from RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.

A brief foot chase ensued and eventually the man was caught and arrested without further incident.

During his flight, the man ditched a backpack he was wearing. Upon recovering the bag, police located a large quantity of crack cocaine inside.

Chet Lee Bradley, 37,  who has a "significant history" with local police, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and resisting arrest.

He remained in custody as of Wednesday.
