A good Williams Lake Samaritan trying to help a fellow motorist in distress was rewarded with a traumatic experience earlier this week.

When a young woman stopped to offer assistance to occupants of a pickup truck that was stuck, she was violently attacked and dragged from her vehicle.

The offender, identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Billyboy, then fled the scene in the woman's vehicle. Since RCMP had been receiving calls about the erratic and fast speed driving of the pickup, they soon arrived on scene of the stuck truck and the female victim who told them her story.

The pickup truck driver continued to elude capture at high speeds though stop signs and a school zones until the driver lost control, crashed the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. Police pursued the offender into a residence where was arrested and taken into custody.

A second male in the pickup truck was arrested at the scene of the stuck truck, but was later released with no charges.

"This was a brazen attack on an innocent person who stopped to provide assistance to what she thought were people in distress. It was an unprovoked and random attack on a person who stopped to help. She was pulled from her car and assaulted by one of the men who had no regard for anyone else's safety," said Sgt. Steve MacLeod.

Fortunately, the 19-year-old woman suffered no physical injury.

Billyboy, who remains in custody, has been charged with robbery, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault, break & enter, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property.
