Not all heroes wear capes.
In the case of Prince George resident Chelsi Sabbe, her heroic efforts in preventing an attempted kidnapping two years ago will be honoured next week with the Medal of Bravery in our nation’s capital.
According to a release, the incident occurred on Aug. 15, 2017 when Sabbe took kids from her daycare centre to a local park.
She saw a man approached two children on the playground, grab one of them, and started to run away.
Sabbe then pursued the suspect, tackled him to the ground, and brought the child back to the playground, where she asked all of the kids to get on top of the structure.
The man came back in an attempt to take another kid, but Sabbe wrestled him to the ground once again and put him in a chokehold while the kids went to a nearby house for safety.
The suspect fled the park afterwards, but was eventually caught by Prince George RCMP.
Sabbe is one of 19 people who will be accepting the Medal of Bravery from Canada’s Governor-General on Tuesday (March 26).
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette will conduct the ceremony beginning at 7:30 a.m Pacific time.
PrinceGeorgeMatters has reached out to Sabbe for reaction.
