The chip truck that came within a snowbank of crashing into a local restaurant last week had extensive braking issues, Prince George RCMP said Thursday.

As a result, the driver faces a charge under the Motor Vehicle Act of failing to ensure safe operating conditions for the vehicle.

The truck, which police said is was leased from Excel Transportation Inc., came close to smashing into Boston Pizza at 2500 Vance Road after it went into a slide while going down Highway 16 west at Peden Hill.

The investigation was conducted by Prince George RCMP traffic services and provincial motor vehicle inspectors in the commercial vehicle safety and enforcement branch. The file has been turned over to WorkSafe B.C.
