A Sunday afternoon two-car collision left a pickup truck wrapped around a pole and a seven-year-old boy in the hospital.

Around 5:30 p.m. the weekend quiet downtown was disrupted when the driver of a Chrysler sedan travelling west on 2nd Avenue ran a red light and collided with a Dodge Ram travelling south on Victoria Street.

The truck, carrying a mother with her two young sons, then impacted with a post outside of a 201 Victoria Street storefront.

While paramedics attended to the boy and cleaned off the blood staining his face, an RCMP officer presented him with a stuffed Dalmatian dog toy, which he clutched while gingerly being helped onto a stretcher.

According to an RCMP officer on the scene, the boy's injuries were not likely serious, but he was transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The female driver of the sedan, who police said was not from the area, was visibly shaken after the incident.
