Williams Lake police are looking for the pranksters believed to be responsible for a false bomb threat.

Around 7 p.m. on Feb. 23, the Williams Lake RCMP were called to the Procter Street 7-Eleven regarding a bomb threat.

Although no explosive device was observed, the RCMP took the precaution of evacuating the store and the neighbouring premises.

The Williams Lake Fire Department and Police Dog Services from Prince George were called to the scene to assist.

The threat was determined to be a hoax after a thorough search of the building and immediate area. The RCMP are continuing their investigation to identify the culprit who initiated the threat.

"This is a very poor and unfortunate use of emergency resources as well as the inconvenience it causes to businesses and the community as a whole," said Williams Lake Insp. Warren Brown.

This was the second bomb hoax in a week. On Feb. 17, the RCMP received an anonymous report of a bomb at Colmneetza Secondary School, just minutes after a school dance had begun. The school was evacuated and a search did not turn up any bombs. The RCMP determined the original call was made from a pay phone at the Williams Lake Greyhound terminal, according to the Williams Lake Tribune.

"The RCMP takes these threats extremely seriously and intend to criminally charge those who are involved in making a false report."

Anyone with information about this, or similar type incidents, are encouraged to contact the Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
