Nominations are needed to help bring an all-ages bike park into the community.
"We have nominated the Blackburn Community Association for the Kraft Heinz Project Play for the bike park we have proposed," said BCA president Jamie Kranrod.
"We have pitched it to the city and have their unofficial endorsement but we are currently waiting to have a date to attend a council meeting and get the official endorsement."
Over the last eight years, Kraft Heinz Project Play has contributed over $2.2 million to 68 communities across Canada.
The grand prize winner will receive $250,000 toward a recreational facility upgrade and the three finalists will each receive $20,000.
Interest in a bike park in Prince George was identified and released in the city's Park Strategy in January 2017.
The proposed location is Blackburn Park, in a larger space and for all ages.
The city's park strategy consists of feedback gathered from residents and stakeholders in order to provide clear direction on community demands for parks.
From comments received, 80 per cent of residents agreed that the city needs to improve its parks.
Themes included in the strategy focus on riverfront parks and trails, improvements for neighborhood parks and a desire for a connected city-wide trail system.
Council identified the need to prioritize park investment and from this, a need for a park strategy was born.
And so was the idea for the bike park.
"We are organizing ourselves and the community in helping make this happen," Kranrod siad.
"Right now, we have until Sept. 4 to get as many people as possible to comment on our nomination page in order to show their support and raise our profile. If we are shortlisted in the top four, we are guaranteed some money and a chance for the whole $250,000."
The finalists will be announced Sept. 4.
