It's a win-win situation: you get a beautifully-wrapped gift for cheap, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George (BBBSPG) gets a hand mentoring children and youth in the community.
The non-profit is running the gift-wrapping booth at Pine Centre Mall from now until Dec. 24, with all proceeds going to making a difference in the lives of children.
Tim Bennett, executive director of BBBSPG, is very excited about the station. He says that mentoring children doesn't just benefit the individual kids, but also the community as a whole.
"(We know that) children and youth with strong role models are less likely to engage in negative interactions with the law, drug experimentation, and more likely to go onto post-secondary education and become proactive members of the community. We know this has long-term effects."
Darby Brand is running the booth this holiday season. She says that no matter what your price range is, their army of over 40 volunteers will come up with a beautiful way to hide your gift from prying eyes this season.
"We are really able to customize your gift; we have a really traditional fun paper with Santa Claus and snowmen, and we also have more modern gift wrapping options like butcher paper with black and white ribbons. We also have luxury wrapping papers, with anything from tartans, to sparkles, to real greenery or candy canes to top off your gift."
She adds that pricing varies based on the size of the parcel and the complexity of the wrapping, but it's mostly between $2 and $10. But, she points out, they are always happy to make special arrangements.
"Somebody yesterday inquired about getting an 80-inch TV wrapped. As long as it is legal, packaged, and you can get it into the mall, we can wrap it for you."
