A local company has gone global.
The BID Group of companies, based in Vanderhoof and Prince George, have crossed the U.S.border and purchased an operations facility in the United States for manufacturing and logistics advantages on the eastern seaboard. The $3 million investment gets them 40,000 square feet of existing factory space, the renovations and equipment needed to start up manufacturing there, and will trigger the hire of 40 people.
It is located strategically in St. George, South Carolina, approximately 65 km northwest of Charleston, said BID Group's Brian Fehr.
"We are thrilled to be expanding... into the southeast USA," said Fehr. "We are already filling orders now and we are excited to hit the ground running with this expansion."
The BID Group was already one of the largest private sector employers in northern B.C., with companies involved in industrial construction, fabrication, equipment and related fields.
The company expanded nationally earlier in 2013 when they purchased Quebec-based Comact Equipment Inc. That transaction turned BID-Comact into one of the largest companies of its kind as primarily a manufacturer of sawmills and other facility-sized industrial equipment in North America. Together, the companies operate more than 250,000 square feet of manufacturing space and employ approximately 750 people.
