Anyone looking for work in Prince George will have the chance at an on-the-spot interview next Wednesday (Oct. 17) during WorkBC’s annual Fall Job Fair.
“Our job fairs are completely different than an average job fair,” says Ken Newell, WorkBC Prince George's operations manager.
He says instead of the typical setup, where job seekers spend the day looking at information booths and asking questions, the job fair will have employers set up in offices ready to do mini-interviews.
“We stress the idea to be prepared to be interviewed,” says Newell, adding that their employee services team screens all employers in attendance to make sure they are actually looking to hire for open positions.
“I know there are a few hires that happen on site, and a number that happen after the fact. Some people can get booked for second interviews at the job fair as well, and that happens quite frequently,” says Newell.
The job fair also hosts employers from across industry sectors and includes everything from camp work and care aides to retail stores looking to hire for the Christmas rush.
“It’s right across the whole mix, so there is a varied amount of opportunities coming out,” says Newell.
More than 20 employers will be on location, including Lomak Bulk Carriers Corp, Brink Forest Products, CN Rail, Canfor, Great White Toys and Games, Integris Credit Union, B.C. Corrections and more.
Newell says the job fair will also contain a resource hub where job seekers can get further information about opportunities with Revenue Canada, Community Futures Fraser Fort George and the Industry Training Authority, among others.
“All of our job coaches will be out and about and able to speak with people, as well, during the job fair,” says Newell. “It’s usually pretty busy so be prepared to stand in line, come prepared for the interview, and I recommend people bring a water bottle.”
The event takes place at WorkBC’s offices (150 Brunswick St.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
