Have you checked out the price of fish in the supermarket lately?
It’s certainly not cheap.
Lucky for us, we live in an area surrounded by rivers and lakes with abundant supplies of fish. The trick is trying to catch them.
If you don’t already have a freshwater angling licence, the BC Wildlife Federation, in partnership with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C., has a deal you can’t afford to pass up.
The two groups are promoting Family Fishing Day during Father’s Day weekend to take advantage of the 800 lakes and rivers stocked with fish each year. From Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18, anyone who has lived in Canada can fish in B.C. fresh water for free with no licence required.
Special events are planned around Family Fishing Weekend in some parts of the province and that information is available at www.bcfamilyfishing.com. Planned events include family barbeques, fly-tying clinics, free rod and tackle loans, children’s fishing clinics, and stream clean-up projects
Freshwater licences valid from April 1-March 31, 2024 are available online on the provincial website.
The cost for B.C. adult residents is $39.56, and seniors have to pay just $5.50 for their freshwater licence. Kids 16 or younger don’t need a licence.
