BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Vanderhoof that resulted in injury to man.
On Feb. 13, just before 10:30 a.m., frontline officers from the Vanderhoof RCMP were called to a well-being check at a residence in the 1000-block of Kenny Road in Vanderhoof.
When officers arrived they located two women and a man inside. The man, was bound by court-ordered conditions not to be in contact with the women, and was subsequently arrested. The man reportedly resisted the officer’s attempts to take him into custody and struggle ensued.
With assistance from the other attending officer, the man was taken into custody and transported to the RCMP detachment where he was assessed by BC Emergency Health Services.
BC EHS then transported him to a local hospital where it was determined he sustained serious injury.
IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
However, all aspects and circumstances of this incident will now be the subject of independent investigation by the IIO BC.
The IIO is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
