Conservation Officers have seized a fawn and charged a B.C. resident for confining the young deer.

The Cumberland resident was cited under the Wildlife Act for confining a wild animal and was fined $345.

Chris Doyle, deputy chief of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS), said the fawn, which was seized Wednesday (Aug. 12), was sent to a rehabilitation centre where it is being assessed for return to the wild.

The conservation service is reminding people that does often leave their fawns for extended periods while they forage for food.

Fawns should be left alone unless there is obvious distress.
