B.C. records six new COVID-19 deaths, Northern Health adds 53 cases

COVID-19 case numbers have risen once again in the north. 

In a written update this afternoon (Feb. 10), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said another 469 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the past 24 hours for a grand provincial total of 71,856 January last year. 

Of those, Northern Health found 53 more infections for an updated authority total of 3,902.

There are 4,305 people listed as active for COVID-19 in the province, 230 of whom are in hospital with 66 in critical care or ICU. A total of 66,167 have fully recovered.

Health officials announced another four deaths this afternoon which brings the new death toll to 1,263. 

There was some good news in Northern Health this afternoon, with a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at UHNBC being officially declared over. 

The outbreak in the Internal Medicine Unit was initially declared on Dec. 29, 2020, there was a total of 33 cases among 21 patients and 12 staff who tested positive for the virus.

There were nine patients who lost their lives to the virus. 

The authority says there have been no new lab-confirmed cases related to the outbreak since Jan. 12. 

"Northern Health Public Health continues to actively monitor and follow up all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff and patients at any NH facilities," a statement reads. 

There remain outbreaks at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George (declared Dec. 12, 2020), Acropolis Manor in Prince Rupert (declared Jan. 19, 2021) and Dawson Creek & District Hospital - Medical Inpatient Unit (declared on Feb. 7, 2021).
