B.C. police watchdog summoned after man suffers serious injuries in Burns Lake altercation

A man was confirmed to have serious injuries following an altercation with RCMP in Burns Lake.

As a result, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been called in to investigate if his injuries were caused by police actions or not.

On Aug. 27 around 5 p.m., RCMP in the northern B.C. village pulled over a vehicle near the Richmond Loop along Highway 16, to which the driver was asked to step out.

According to the IIO, an altercation then took place between the officer involved and the man, who was arrested and taken to the local detachment.

Later, the man said he was injured and after he was taken to hospital by paramedics, it was confirmed he had serious injuries.

No other details are being provided at this time.
