B.C. Liberals balk at new cave laws

The B.C. Liberals government isn't caving on caving legislation - for now. Forests minister Pat Bell told the Province Saturday that, while he hasn't reviewed a private members bill calling for additional rules to protect B.C.

The B.C. Liberals government isn't caving on caving legislation - for now.

Forests minister Pat Bell told the Province Saturday that, while he hasn't reviewed a private members bill calling for additional rules to protect B.C.'s vast network of caves, he isn't sure more red tape is the answer.

"There are already plenty of tools available to government to protect caves and other geographic features," he said. "I'm not sure if another level of law or rules is what's needed here."
