B.C. Hydro has up to $10,000 ready to give Northern B.C. non-profits, registered charities and community organizations.
The company gives out two types of grants.
The first is a grassroots grant of $2,000 in funding for local community-based programs.
The second is the broad impacts grant, which funds up to $10,000 for organizations who wish to expand an existing program or develop a new program in multiple communities.
Applications for these two community grants are open until March 29.
B.C. Hydro is looking for projects that are focused on developing smart energy ideas that promote energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and minimize environmental impacts.
Projects focusing on youth programs in trades, science, technology, engineering, and math, and safety education will also be considered.
Some of the things B.C. Hydro funded in 2018 included helping communities in Haida Gwaii to design and build a tsunami warning pole marking project which directs residents to higher ground in the event of a possible tsunami.
Prince George also received funding for Science Alliance summer day camps run by the Exploration Place, the Central Interior B.C. Science Exhibition, and the Northern B.C. Regional Science Fair.
You can find more information, or apply for these grants online.
