B.C. Hydro president and CEO Dave Cobb will speak at a luncheon June 24 hosted by Initiatives Prince George.
Cobb will address a suite of topics, including the Crown agency's plans for the Northwest Transmission Line, the massive Site C hydro-electric project and how B.C.'s north will play a role in the province's clean energy future.
The $404-million Northwest Transmission Line is considered a catalyst project that will have benefits throughout northern B.C., including in Prince George. The line will provide power for potential mining projects, as well bringing access to potential energy projects in the northwest.
B.C. Hydro has filed submissions with the provincial and federal regulators on its Site C Dam project in northern B.C. which comes with a $2-billion increased price tag to $7.9 billion.
The mega-project in northeast B.C., if it's approved, is expected to have spinoff benefits for Prince George, a service and supply centre in northern B.C.
The project itself has a seven-year construction timeline, and would provide an estimated 7,000 direct jobs and another 28,000 spinoff jobs, according to B.C. Hydro.
It faces opposition from some First Nations, environmental groups and residents in the region.
The luncheon takes place at the Coast Inn of the North. The doors open at 11:30 a.m.
Ticket are $20 plus the HST.
