B.C. Beef Day is set for Wednesday to encourage British Columbians to buy local and celebrate the industry.
"Our local ranchers work very hard in their dedication to quality beef production and that deserves some recognition," said Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad. "We have excellent, top-quality beef in this province and by buying local, we are boosting local families that work as cattlemen and cattlewomen to put food on all our tables."
On Friday, the provincial government said it will be investing $2 million into the ranching industry with the potential to leverage up to $3 million in federal funding to develop market opportunities and invest in research.
Minister of Agriculture and Lands Steve Thomson made the announcement during the B.C. Cattlemen's Association annual general meeting in Williams Lake.
"The beef industry is an important economic contributor and is worth over $250 million to B.C.'s economy," Thomson said in a press release. "Over 4,000 ranches around the province provide jobs and income for thousands of British Columbians."
