B.C. Arts Council supports local groups

The B.C. Arts Council approved $131,000 in grants for three Prince George organizations.

The B.C. Arts Council approved $131,000 in grants for three Prince George organizations.

Two Rivers Gallery received $52,000, the Fraser-Fort George Regional Museum Society received $62,000 and Community Arts Council of Prince George and District received $17,657.

The funding will support core programs offered by the three organizations.

"This funding will allow arts groups in Prince George to continue contributing to the community," Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell said. "I'm pleased local groups will benefit."

Other funding recipients in the region include the Community Arts Council of Fort St. James and the Lakes District Arts Council which each received over $5,000.

"Our community is full of great organizations that enrich our cultural education and experiences," Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond said."The grants are determined through a peer review process and it is good news that these applications received strong peer support."

The BC Arts Council is an independent agency that supports a range of activities including funding for professional artists and arts organizations, community cultural development and public education.
