Mayor Shari Green, CN Rail (Mountain Region) risk management officer John Nicoletti, and CN superintendent of BC North Norm Hart show off CN's new 100 years of Rail banners, which will be found along Highway 97 in Prince George starting later this spring.

A series of banners are going up this spring to mark the city's railway centennial.

"Prince George has always been at an intersection of vital transportation routes," said Mayor Shari Green, in a press release. "First there were the Nechako and Fraser Rivers, and later came the railroads and the highways. I'm happy to mark the occasion of 100 years of rail in Prince George with these commemorative banners."

The banners will be displayed on street lights along Highway 97 from Pine Centre to the John Hart bridge, marking the 100th anniversary of the completion of the rail line between Prince George and Prince Rupert. They will depict themes such as the arrival of rail in 1914 and the anniversary of the Last Spike.

"CN is proud of its history in Northern B.C.," said CN general manager Doug Ryhorchuk, in a press release. "With more than 600 employees in the Prince George area and an historic line that provides a direct link to the Port of Prince Rupert, this region continues to play an essential role along CN's network in supporting the local and national economies."

The company runs 10 to 15 trains through the city each day.
