Balcony ablaze

The cause of a balcony fire on Gillette Street is still under investigation. Officials are primarily thankful that no one was injured.

"When firefighters arrived flames were licking above the roof from the top balcony of a triplex," said Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Rod Wiese. "The fire was quickly knocked down and the residents were all able to get out safely."

The alarm sounded at about 10 p.m. Saturday night. Three fire halls responded to the blaze in the 200 block of Gillette Street. The fire was located in the middle of the block, with several other residential buildings close by. The quick response of the fire department spared all adjacent buildings any damage.

The destruction to the location on fire, however, is estimated at $50,000. The cause has not been officially determined, but investigators were continuing on Sunday to look for that answer.
