The average sale price for a single-family home for the year so far was just under $300,000, although the number of sales has declined, according to third-quarter figures released Friday by the B.C. Northern Real Estate Board.
As of the end of September, the average price was $297,436 on 741 sales. That works out to $220.4 million worth of activity.
By comparison, the 767 single-family homes had exchanged hands for an average price of $282,986 by the third quarter of 2015 - amounting to $217 million. As for 2014, there were 755 sales for $273,321 on average, for $206.4 million.
"Prince George is having a good year with a stable economy and the positive outlook on growth from the Conference Board of Canada," BCNREB past president David Black said in a statement accompanying the numbers. "Sales volumes are virtually the same as 2015 while prices have increased."
Looking at properties of all types, 1,158 worth $320.6 million in total have changed hands, compared with 1,127 properties worth $291.7 million by Sept. 30, 2015.
In the western part of the city, the median price of the 227 homes sold this year, was $270,000.
East of Central Street, the 143 single family homes that sold had a median price of $219,000.
North of the river, the 156 single family homes sold had a median price of $297,000.
In the southwest, the median price of the 202 single family homes sold was $349,900.
At the end of September, there were 686 properties of all types available for purchase through the Multiple Listing Service in the city.
