A Prince George man who was so high on drugs he was in an induced drug agitated state attempted to snatch a four-month old baby girl from her parents.
Prince George RCMP attending the afternoon incident on Friday at Eighth Avenue and Victoria Street were told by witnesses the man approached the couple from behind, pushed between them, mumbling that the baby was in danger, and tried to grab the child from its stroller. The suspect then assaulted the mother and father as they tried to fight him off.
Witnesses told police when the baby was safe with her parents, the suspect ripped off the cover of the baby stroller and began charging at the oncoming traffic in the area.
When police located the 27-year-old suspect shortly after, he resisted arrest, but was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.
The man, who is well-known to police, will face charges of attempted abduction, two counts of assault and obstructing a police officer as he attempted to give a false name at the time of his arrest.
"This incident could have resulted in a tragic outcome if it were not for the quick response of the parents and the RCMP," said Cst. Lesley Smith, media communications officer.
"This story is a prime example of the individuals police deal with on a daily basis and how it affects the entire community when an individual is addicted to drugs."
