A public meeting has been called by the Rocky Mountain Rangers army reserve unit to discuss their hopes to base their Prince George operations at the former Meadow elementary school.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at 155 McDermid Drive.

"The purpose of the open house is to answer questions directly related to how the Rocky Mountain Rangers will be using Meadow school and what the local residents can expect," said Rocky Mountain Rangers official Lt. Seth Hunter.

The militia unit is headquartered in Kamloops but is branching into Prince George. It is part of the Canadian Forces but is for people interested in part-time soldier duties. Students and those with other jobs are paid to train a few days per week but still maintain their studies and career paths.

Some residents of the Meadow school surrounding area have expressed displeasure about the Rocky Mountain Rangers taking up residence in their neighbourhood.
