Armed standoff ends peacefully

A gun-toting man suspected in a domestic assault incident is in custody after a standoff northwest of Prince George. On Jan. 30 at 11:16 a.m., Prince George RCMP received a complaint of a domestic assault with a firearm that occurred on Jan.

A gun-toting man suspected in a domestic assault incident is in custody after a standoff northwest of Prince George.

On Jan. 30 at 11:16 a.m., Prince George RCMP received a complaint of a domestic assault with a firearm that occurred on Jan. 29 near Nukko Lake. Upon arrival, police discovered a lone, intoxicated male in the residence with a firearm.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team, police dog service and negotiators were called out to assist general duty members.

After many hours of negotiations, the 48-year-old man surrendered to police without incident just after 8 a.m. on Jan. 31.

Prince George RCMP will be recommending charges of pointing a firearm and uttering threats.
