Armed robber taken in

A Surrey man was arrested following an armed robbery in Prince George Tuesday night.

Prince George RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station in the 800 block of Central Street West around 9:20 p.m. where officers heard that a Caucasian man entered brandishing a knife.

No one was injured and the man fled on foot with two packs of cigarettes and two lighters.

The suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody after attempting to elude officers.

The 26-year-old was expected to make his first appearance in court Wednesday to face charges of robbery, theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of property obtained by crime, obstruction and two counts of breach of conditions.

According to the RCMP, the suspect also had an outstanding warrant out of Surrey for three counts of breaching conditions and has a criminal record dating back to 2006 with convictions in Victoria, Abbotsford, Surrey, Vancouver as well as in Alberta.
