Area restriction set for Shovel Lake fire

At 8 a.m. on Monday an area restriction order will be set it place for Crown land near the Shovel Lake wildfire. The fire is about six kilometres north of Fraser Lake and 30 kilometres southwest of Fort St. James.

At 8 a.m. on Monday an area restriction order will be set it place for Crown land near the Shovel Lake wildfire.

The fire is about six kilometres north of Fraser Lake and 30 kilometres southwest of Fort St. James.

This area restriction is put in place for public safety because of the wildfire's behaviour and how it can impact forest service roads as well as to avoid any interference with firefighting activities.

The order will be in place until noon Sept. 15 or until it is rescinded.

This order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries shown on the map that is posted online at: http://ow.ly/EYaT30lyPvw.

Under the order and Section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter this restricted area without prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person enters the area only in the course of:

* traveling to or from his or her principal residence that is not under an evacuation order;

* using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;

* traveling to or from an industrial activity or business location;

* traveling through or entering the area as a person acting in an official capacity; or

* traveling through or entering the area for an approved purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities.
