Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer is now a member of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

The Conservative representative is one of seven government members on the 12-person committee.

"As we all know, natural resources are a key driving force for our national economy, and I look forward to continuing to consult with local stakeholders and to be able to provide a voice for northeastern B.C.'s natural resource community here in Ottawa," Zimmer said in a news release.

The committee studies issues related to natural resources and has the ability to examine the operations, management and budget of the Department of Natural Resources.

Last week Zimmer was named the chairman of the Conservative's B.C. and Yukon caucus, he also serves as chairman of the B.C. pipeline caucus and sits on Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The committee will have its first meeting of the new session on Oct. 30 with one item currently listed on the agenda, the election of a chairman.
