April was a wetter than normal month thanks to two exceptionally rainy days, Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele said in a synopsis for the month.
On April 26, just over 15 millimetres fell, easily surpassing the previous record for the day of nine mm set in 1997. And on April 30 a further 10 mm was recorded, pushing the total for the month to 48.5 mm, almost twice the normal of 25.9 mm.
At 6.4 centimetres, total snowfall was much closer to the normal of 6.3 cm.
As for the temperature, Steele said the month sputtered along with a few attempts at a full blown spring but "never managed to kick into a full meal deal."
"A few periods of normal or slightly above normal temperatures were quickly followed by a cool down," Steele said. "In the end, the monthly mean temperatures ended up close to the 30 year normal."
The warmest day was April 25 when the high for the day struck 18.4 C while the coldest was April 5 with when the overnight low dropped to -5.8 C.
