Mr. PG could get some new neighbours.

A plan to build three four-storey apartments in the vicinity of the masot at the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 97 won city council's unanimous approval on Monday night.

On behalf of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, Seymour Pacific Developments Ltd. had applied to rezone and vary the city's official community plan to allow multiple residential over 1.36 hectares (5.9 acres) at 2604, 2658 and 2626 Recplace Drive. Up to 125 units per hectare will be allowed under the new designations.

The Roll-a-Dome is to the north and the southern portion of 2626 Recplace Drive will remain home to the Prince George Playhouse, council was told.

A public hearing on the matter drew no speakers from the gallery and lasted just five minutes.

Both Mayor Lyn Hall and Coun. Kyle Sampson spoke in favour of the development prior to voting to pass the related bylaws through three readings. They remain subject to final adoption at a future meeting, likely in two weeks time.

"This is a piece of property that's been vacant for many, many years," Hall said. "Great location and it's exciting to see something like this move forward." Sampson called the proposal a "fantastic example of infill in our community."
