Anti-HST forces celebrate

The core supporters of the anti-HST petition are coming together one more time.

The core supporters of the anti-HST petition are coming together one more time. The canvassers and petitioners who worked the region to gather signatures are invited to a meeting at the Remax Room of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club on Saturday at noon.

"It is a congratulatory thing. We got pretty close to 15,000 signatures, we want to celebrate the work that went into that," said Eric Allen, one of the local organizers of the initiative, led province-wide by former premier Bill Vander Zalm.

"It will also be a strategy session. We still have to wait for a ruling," said Allen.

The matter is still before a legislative committee that must decide if the harmonized sales tax issue should be debated and voted upon on the floor of the legislature or instead go to a non-binding referendum. The Select Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives meets on Sept. 8.
