Another Kind of Love! fundraiser Friday night at the Ramada helps supplement shelters for women and children fleeing violence.
The Prince George and District Elizabeth Fry Society hosts the silent auction to support Prince George Amber House and a women and children's shelter in India, the only one of its kind in the country.
"The whole of India as a country does not have a transition house as of yet and domestic violence is the fastest growing crime in India," said Amanda Alexander, E Fry's women and children's services program manager. "The first ever transition house in India is organized by a grassroots organization. We've sent funds to help support them before and now half of the proceeds of this fundraiser will go to it."
Well-known Celtic group Out of Alba has been kind enough to donate their time and lively talent to E Fry's Adopt-A-Shelter program for the cause.
"We have raffle prizes including jewelry and a kayak," Alexander said. "We have almost 50 silent auction packages including nights out in Prince George, spa packages, jewelry, rental cars, a Jasper get away, children's packages, beauty packages and ski passes."
Half the proceeds go to the local shelter and half goes to the shelter in India.
"The end goal is a dedicated facility that has all the additional security pieces and staff in place with the expertise to help women take the next steps from the violence," said Alexander.
Another Kind of Love! is held at the Cranbrook Ballroom at the Ramada Friday at 7 p.m.
Dress is semi formal and there is an appetizer buffet.
Tickets are $30 at both locations of Shhh... or at the door.
