An anonymous donation of nearly $162,000 helped the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation purchase a pair of medical simulators for the University Hospital of Northern B.C. and Terrace.
The SimMan devices are training tools that can be used to teach healthcare students and professionals by simulating realistic scenarios, according to information released by the foundation.
“We couldn’t be more excited and grateful for this new and improved ability to train throughout the region as a whole,” foundation CEO Judy Neiser in a press release. “With portable equipment that can be moved within the region the practical usage and scope of who can be reached is monumental.”
The computer-controlled simulators are responsive and react on a second-by-second way, as well as recording information for later review.
It's rare to get an anonymous and unsolicited donation of that size, Neiser said.
The foundation is looking to purchase a child simulator as well for UHNBC.
