In recognition of the importance of breast feeding to give newborns a healthy start in life, World Breastfeeding Week will be celebrated around the world Friday through Thursday.

It will be the 10th annual Breastfeeding Challenge with a goal to set a new international record for the most breastfeeding babies at one time.

**In Prince George the challenge begins Saturday in the Keith Gordon Room at the Prince George Public Library. Registration is at 10 a.m. and and the official latch-on time starts precisely at 11 a.m.

Celia Romain, public health nurse, invites families to attend the free, fun-filled event that offers guest speakers, information displays, prizes and a free lunch.

The record in 2009 was set by New Zealand with 1,306 moms breastfeeding at the same time. In 2008 the record is believed to have been 1,222.

This year Oregon mothers are organizing to break New Zealand's record. Read about more local events in The Citizen.
