A total of 44 unwanted guns from 28 owners were handed over to Prince George RCMP during a gun amnesty last month.

Of that total, 26 firearms were turned in because they were no longer being used, 13 because they were very old and six because their owners had passed away.

Thirty four were long guns and 10 were hand guns.

Ammunition, magazines, holsters, a pellet gun, pellets, CO2 cartridges, and a grenade were also relinquished.

During the 30-day amnesty, police did not recommend weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply against people who are turning in these items. The amnesty did not apply to crime-related firearms.
