During this new age of social distancing where large gatherings are not permitted to take place, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's will be held online on May 31.

Traditionally these walks to raise funds for those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia through the Alzheimer Society of B.C. would be held in communities throughout the province where each walk would have an honouree who would share their story with those in attendance.

Now the event will be held online with a start time of 9 a.m.

"Together, we can support people affected by dementia during these unprecedented times and ensure that physical distancing does not result in social isolation," Maria Howard, Alzheimer Society of B.C. CEO, said.

"Staying socially connected is beneficial to brain health and it is crucial to keeping our spirits high. This is a real opportunity to show we are a country united to support people affected by dementia and that together we make memories matter."

Participants will be able to stream the walk live, while joining in the fun from their living room, back yard or balcony.

Personal stories will be shared from across the country during the walk by people whose lives have been affected by dementia.

There will also fun, safe challenges to watch.

To sign up visit walkforalzheimers.ca and access updates about the online walk experience. Funds raised will support programs and provide services to local people living with dementia as well as support research into causes and cures for dementia.
