Prince George businessman Selen Alpay and longtime local volunteer Judy Dix are among this year's winners of the B.C. Community Achievement Awards.
The awards are presented to "British Columbians who go above and beyond in their dedication and service to others and who devote time and energy to making their communities more caring, dynamic, beautiful, healthy, and unique."
Credentials for Alpay, who has owned the Prince George Canadian Tire for six years, include involvement in the Prince George and District Elizabeth Fry Society, the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, the Northern Supportive Recovery Centre, the Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Community and the Canadian Cancer Society - Northern Region.
He was also a nominee for the Prince George 2013 Citizen of the Year.
Dix is on the board of Volunteer PG and has worked with the Prince George Crime Stoppers, the Prince George Community Foundation, Meals On Wheels, the Canadian Red Cross, the Handy Circle Society, and the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association.
Alpay and Dix were among 33 people the British Columbia Achievement Foundation confirmed Thursday as this year's winners.
They will be recognized in a formal presentation at Government House in Victoria on April 29. Each will receive a certificate and a medallion designed by B.C. artist Robert Davidson.
