Operation Washup is new workshop by London Drugs designed to keep ahead of the approaching cold and flu season.

London Drugs patient care pharmacists are looking for invitations from schools and teachers to go into classrooms to teach primary students a six-step hand-washing technique that helps prevent the spread of disease caused by germs.

Students will see, through a UV light demonstration, how unclean areas of hands are easily missed without the proper steps of Washup.

"Correct hand washing involves approximately thirty seconds of warm water with soap all over the hand. With regular hand washing the likelihood of germs being spread around the classroom and schools will be reduced, as will the chance of students spreading infectious cold and flu viruses," said Cynnamon Schreinert, media relations for London Drugs.

Patient care pharmacists are providing this program for young students across Western Canada at no charge to schools. School representatives are invited to contact their nearest London Drugs to arrange a workshop.

In Prince George London Drugs is located in Parkwood Mall or call Schreinert at 604-802-2733 or e-mail: [email protected].

Pharmacists also offer patient care clinics and personal consultation at the department's individual consulting booths. Parents who want to be further involved with their child's health management may also want to consult with patient care pharmacists about allergies, asthma and their child's overall well-being.

Founded in 1945, B.C.-based London Drugs operates 73 stores and employs more than 7,500 people in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
