Prince George goes to the polls Nov. 19 to determine who will be their municipal leaders for the next three years.

In an effort to better inform the community on the 24 candidates running for a seat on Prince George municipal council, The Citizen sent out a form to all hopefuls with a series of questions that we hope will reveal their histories, priorities, qualifications and personalities.

Here are what they had to say.

Name: Alex Huber

Occupation, past and present: Presently committee/caretaker for family member, real estate investor, realtor for Royal Lepage Prince George for two years, farmer

Community involvement and contributions: Volunteered three years at city hall for multicultural and international linkage committees, volunteer AIMHI.

Other pertinent qualifications: Strong leadership skills, highly organized,

Why are you running for council? I feel the working class and small business owners are under-represented at City Hall, and it is time for everyone to be heard. Our finances need to be addressed to make sure we choose priorities before luxuries.

What can you uniquely bring to the city? I am not on any slate, my only slate is my community and I will pursue its interests.

What are your most pressing issues? Financial accountability is one of the most pressing issues facing Prince George now. We as a city have some tough decisions to make to ensure we leave our children with more than a maxed-out credit card. Our roads, sidewalks and snow-removal need to be prioritized for the safety of citizens and to be ready for the expected growth of our city.

How do you propose to address those issues?

A major housekeeping needs to be done of our finance department to find where waste and overlapping is eating away at our budget. We need to choose the priorities first and add the extras as we can afford them.

We need to go out and attract new industries by reducing the red tape and letting everyone know we are open for business. This will ease the tax burden on the residents, and add new job opportunities for us.

What do you hope to accomplish in your three-year term should you be elected? If I am elected I will work hard to seek out new ways to increase our tax base, to make sure all groups and agencies work together and to make sure P.G. will continue to be a great place to live.
