Work on upgrading the baggage screening system at the Prince George Airport will begin on Monday.
It's expected to take about three weeks and during that time a screening machine will be set up in the international arrives area on a temporary basis, Prince George Airport Authority said.
Those traveling with bags have to go to that area for baggage screening, then make their way through pre-board screening and into the boarding lounge to catch their flight.
"This is the same process travellers went through in 2014 when the entire baggage belt system was replaced," said PGAA operations director Cuyler Green. "We ask for patience from passengers as we go through this second phase of improvement."
Once up and running, the new system will "expedite and improve the screening of checked baggage," according to Canadian Air Transport Security Authority spokesman Mathieu Larocque.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before their flight and reminded the cut off time for checking into airlines is 45 minutes before departure.
Those landing in Prince George won't be significantly impacted. Arriving passengers will still claim their bags from carousel one.
This project is expected to be completed late February.
