Black smoke seen from the airport last fall was fire training. Similar training will take place this week and poses no threat to public safety.

Dark smoke may be visible from the Prince George Airport this week, but it's not a cause for panic.

The airport authority is conducting aviation-related fire training beginning this morning at 8 a.m. and running until noon. Training will continue all day Wednesday through Friday.

The fires are held in self-contained training facilities under controlled circumstances and pose no threat to the public or surrounding areas.

If there is a lightning storm in the area, training will be postponed.
