Air Cadets earn wings

Two teen members of the Prince George Air Cadets are now among B.C.'s newest pilots.

Sergeant Paul Heim received his Cadet Glider Wings and Sergeant Sarah Bergen received her Air Cadet Pilot Wings at the Regional Gliding School (Pacific) in Comox on Aug. 19.

Heim and Bergen are members of 396 City of Prince George Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

Helm was among 36 Air Cadets from across B.C. spent six weeks learning to fly the Schweizer 2-33A glider to achieve Transport Canada glider pilot licenses.

And Bergen was among 34 Air Cadets from across British Columbia who spent seven weeks learning to fly a Cessna 172 to Transport Canada's private pilot license standards out of the Pacific Flying Club in Boundary Bay.

Heim was also presented with three additional awards for his achievement: the chief flying instructors award for attaining the highest mark in the class on the flight test; the commanding officers award for the best all around glider pilot in terms of skills, airmanship, maturity and self discipline; Air Force Association of Canada Medal, the most prestigious of the three, as the top glider and power Cadet.
